Providing a unique experience, the program goes beyond technique, with details, concepts and fundamentals.
Renzo Gracie started referring to Alexandre Freitas as Soca or Socador (Puncher) because at 18 he decided to start boxing to break up his BJJ routine. In time, the entirety of Gracie Barra HQ was calling him that. Soca’s first teacher was Jean Jacques Machado, at a school full of incredible talent -- “Draculino”, “Soneca”, “Risada”. Alexandre Freitas showed promise early on and made progress under Jean Jacques’s supervision. In his own career as coach, Soca is known for his preference for creating his own brand. Despite having been connected to Gracie Barra for a long time, he decided to found Soca BJJ, which has since shaped black-belts like Rafael “Capoeira”, Paulo de Tarso, “Cabeção”, Vinícius Moura, Sydney Machado and even a finalist of the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter -- Phillipe Nover.
Soca tells you a bit about his history, what are the main fundamentals he will be teaching, and how you’re going to learn from this methodology he created.
Want to surprise your opponent at the start of the fight, when standing? Anticipate the cross grip and, with the other hand, help bring your opponent’s head, locking it like a guillotine, using the collar to choke. It’s important to control your opponent’s tricep so that the adjustment doesn’t slip away.
Similar to the cross-collar guillotine done standing, this technique is for when your opponent is already on the ground playing guard, threatening your position as they try to lasso your leg and come up. Before they can achieve this, make the cross grip and employ the collar guillotine.
