CHILDREN AND SELF-CONFIDENCE

In his writings, the famous karateka Hidetaka Nishiyama talks about the importance of the master, emphasizing that the path to excellence can only be found when the disciple follows the teacher's guidance. “Students who try to find their way alone will never find the treasure”, says the Japanese.

Corroborating Nishiyama’s idea and, at the same time, thinking about the trajectory of Renzo, this perspective expands: the master is the compass, the apprentice is the traveler. When they work together, the path of knowledge reveals itself.

RENZO: Every parent should get their child into Jiu-Jitsu, before any sport... Because we don't actually sell martial art. We sell self-confidence. We sell the possibility of you being able to touch someone without fear. You lose the fear of expressing yourself, you start walking with your head held high. There's no place you can't go, there's no goal you can't achieve, since you are a Jiu-Jitsu person.

“Education is the art of making people ethical.”
Friedrich Hegel

An anecdote involving the singer Madonna: one day she entered Renzo's academy, accompanied by two of her sons. She had brought the children to practice Jiu-Jitsu. Renzo received them and distributed kimonos to the kids. But before leaving, Madonna called Renzo for a private conversation: "Listen: I don't want my sons to hit their heads on the floor, and I don't want them to be choked, okay?"

After a brief silence, Renzo replied, “See that door over there?” and pointed to the entrance to the academy.

Madonna replied yes.

Renzo smiled: “Very well… From the door out, you are the mother. From the door in, THE MOMMY IS ME!”

Everybody laughed, including the popstar. Then Madonna's sons started training at the gym on 30th Street.
