Guard Defense

A common challenge for those who want to improve their game is to organize training constancy and flow, identifying weaknesses to overcome, and work it all into their routine. To solve this problem, we have done intensive research with Master Renzo Gracie, who dedicates a big part of his life to teaching the gentle art. Renzo and his team have built a weekly lessons program to supplement your training, routines, and your lifestyle in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

LESSON PLAN

Side to side

Side to side

Small details in adjustment and positioning will make your guard impassable. It's what Renzo teaches in this key video that should be watched by practitioners of all levels.

Laying down with no grips

Laying down with no grips

The guard player is lying down, without grips on the passer's gi, while the latter is standing, about to get past the defenses and reach side control. Gregor Gracie teaches how the guard player must react, sitting (from the dynamic of the technical lift), controlling the passer's cross collar and placing himself safely.

Laying down with no grips (with your legs controlled)

Laying down with no grips (with your legs controlled)

Gregor Gracie again analyzes the position studied in the previous video, but now he considers the possibility of the passer starting work on a guard pass at the same moment the guard player grips the collar. Gregor shows how the guard player must follow the passer's motion, and also how they can break one of the grips and place themselves in a safe position.
