Providing a unique experience, the program goes beyond technique, with details, concepts and fundamentals.
The half-guard offers much more space and mobility to the passer than the closed guard. This mobility, however, can act as bait, as if the guard player were attracting their opponent to a minefield.
Learn the secrets and variations of the half-guard from the pioneer, Roberto “Gordo” Correa and Rafael “Sapo” Natal.
This training session teaches, in a thorough manner, the essential concepts for maintaining the position, as well as sweeps and submissions applied according to the most common reactions.
Roberto “Gordo” Corrêa Lima became famous for popularizing the half-guard -- formerly considered to be a mere transition -- in the mid-nineties. A champion of multiple editions of the Worlds, Brazilian Nationals and Pan, Gordo is among the greatest BJJ competitors of that decade.
Prof. Correa teaches here a submission using his opponent’s lapel and locking his arm in, forcing the choke and stymieing a possible defense.
The simplest sweep starting from the controls of the deep half-guard is based on the mechanic of a roll. As he hip-escapes to the side, Rafael Natal obtains the lever necessary to unbalance the passer and land on top. Note that Natal uses the leg as a pendulum to get the roll going.
