Providing a unique experience, the program goes beyond technique, with details, concepts and fundamentals.
A winner at the first World Jiu-Jitsu Championships in 1996, and also at Abu Dhabi Legends over 21 years later, Hélio Moreira, known as "Soneca," is a charismatic representative of Gracie Barra's technical school from the early 90s.
With the success of our earlier program on the hybrid open guard, Helio Soneca is back, this time with a hybrid guard between the half-guard and the vale-tudo and butterfly guards. Helping him out is his student, fellow world champion (but at brown) Leandro Slaib.
To kick off the program, Soneca teaches the important position of going from the half-guard to the back, using the underhook. Note that he uses the contraction and relaxing of the legs to stimulate the behavior by his opponent that will make this sweep work.
This time the opponent doesn't take the bait, and Soneca has to work to get the position. He does this by distancing himself at the same time he rocks the passer's base, which enables him to employ the arm drag.
