Review 01

Before we move on to the study of new techniques, it's time to go back to the start of our course and take a quick look at the positions taught in the first few weeks. It's like we want to make a building taller without neglecting the maintenance of its foundation.

The learning of BJJ depends on repetition. That which is not repeated will be inevitably forgotten. Therefore, in this first course review, we will take a second look at what we studied in the first five modules:

1) Attacks from the closed guard

2) Defensive guard

3) Attacks from side control

4) Side control escapes

5) Attacks from the back

You'll also see a lifestyle lesson where Bruno Fernandes discusses the frequency at which you should train BJJ. And your takedown lesson features Garry Leger revealing the secrets of the ippon seoi nage.

Renzo Gracie

In July 2018, Renzo Gracie made history by winning an MMA match at 51, against an opponent ten years younger. He fought historic bouts in Pride FC in the 90s and became a crucial player in the transition between vale-tudo and modern MMA. He also stood out through the birth and rise of submission wrestling organization the Abu Dhabi Combat Club, where he became a two-time champion, and also won a super fight at the age of 50. Renzo is one of the most respected martial arts teachers in the world and runs a 15,000 sq. ft. academy located in the heart of Manhattan, NY.

LESSON PLAN

Armbar from closed guard

Armbar from closed guard

Instead of stretching his opponent's arm, as in the traditional armbar from closed guard, Renzo teaches an attack on the flexed arm in the moment his opponent tries to pull back his arm and close up defensively.

Cross collar choke

Cross collar choke

Rolles addresses the choke with crossed hands starting from the closed guard. Note the way Rolles initially breaks the passer's posture and then controls his collars to execute the finish. Note how it's not about using force, but rather applying multiple technical details at once.

Frequence of training

Frequence of training

How often do you wish to practice BJJ? Becareful not to overdo it. If your lofty goal isn'tmet, you may get frustrated and quit. This videohas some good pointers on the subject.
